Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Programs and Services:
- Habitat is committed to ending poverty housing, one home at a time, by building a decent home for a family in need.
Did you know
The Scioto Chapter was founded in 1988.
The Scioto Chapter has renovated or built 11 homes.
Every Habitat home is built through volunteer labor and donations.
Homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their habitat house and the houses of others.
Habitat homeowners make mortgage payments, tax payments and insurance payments like all other responsible Scioto County homeowners. A Habitat home is a 'hand up' and not a 'hand out'.
The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.
Habitat homeowners are chosen without regard to race, religion or ethnic group, in keeping with U.S. law and with Habitat's abiding belief that God's love extends to everyone. Habitat also welcomes volunteers from all faiths, or no faith, who actively embrace Habitat's goal of eliminating homelessness.
Crossroads Mission in Northern Kentcky actually donates the walls of our houses free of charge. We send the house plans to them and they build the walls. Prayers, Bible verses, and messages of hope are written on the walls by the volunteers who build them. They are packed and shipped to the building site. Our local volunteers then place the walls throughout the house and continue with the build.
Our houses depend on several large national corporate donors like Hunter Douglas, Square D and Whirlpool for brand new electrical and heating systems and appliances.
Locally, we have partnered with the Community Action Organization, Scioto County and the City of Portsmouth for funding and volunteers to build our houses.
Habitat homes are built with extra thick insulation to make them efficient and to cut down on energy costs.
